“Now, the mist across the windows hide the lines
But nothing hides the colors of the lights that shine
Electricity so fine
Look and dry your eyes
We are so tired of all the darkness in our lives
With no more angry words to say can come alive
Get into a car and drive to the other side
Steppin’out, into the night, into the light”
Since that quote has nothing to do with anything, I’ll just get on with the blog:
As we move into October, the holidays, the heat, and the first interim are all generally behind us. As a result, we now move into one of our marathon runs of the school year. We essentially have seven weeks of uninterrupted school one of the most significant teaching periods of the year. Patterns will start to form, teachers and students will finally find a steady rhythm and the last of the newness of the school year will wear off. However, as a result of all the holidays, many events that would normally occur earlier in the year, will now take place in October:
*MS Open House – Oct. 14th
*US Recruitment Night – Oct. 21st
*Joy of Education (JOE) Dinner – October 28th
*Homecoming Week – Oct. 11-15 (Homecoming football game on the 16th)
Due to these events, as well as others, there are several 12:30 and 2:50 dismissals this month. Please check your blue books for those dates.
In addition, October will also see the change in athletic seasons. The very successful fall season gives way to basketball and girls soccer on October 18th. This means that some students will now not have a study hall in their schedules, while others will have one for the first time.
In the 7th grade Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s really pick up this month. We have seven students celebrating and therefore this means that the weekends become much more crowded for our 7th graders. Combine this with playing school sports for the first time and students will face time, athletic, and social challenges that they have not yet had to in their young lives. For those who have been through the 7th grade year before, please help those who have not. At school, we are working to make those Bar and Bat Mitzvah weeks a little easier on the participants and in some regards for those who will be attending two and three ceremonies a week.
And one final note, speaking of marathons, 8th Grade IPC teacher Julie Morris will be running in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 10th. She can be tracked online and she will provide that information this week. I will try to push it out to all of you who are interested in checking in on her progress beginning at 7am on Sunday.
